10th Edition of Waterford Walls – Ireland’s largest International Street Art Festival
From August 9th to 18th, 2024, the city of Waterford, located in the southeast of Ireland, was transformed into a vibrant canvas during the 10th edition of the Waterford Walls International Street Art Festival. Supported by Montana Cans, the festival brought together 47 talented artists from across the globe, who adorned 55 walls throughout the city with stunning murals.
The event was more than just live art—it was a celebration of culture and community. With 10,252 visitors, the festival featured live music, walking tours, workshops, and panel talks for all ages. An impressive 3,000 spray cans were used to bring these colorful visions to life, turning Waterford’s streets into a dynamic outdoor gallery.
A street Art Festival with a Purpose
Waterford Walls isn’t just about art; it’s about breaking down barriers between art and the community. The festival aims to create vibrant streets that both the local community and visitors can take pride in, using street art as a powerful tool in urban regeneration. The focus is on building connected, creative communities through place-making initiatives that contribute to the long-term well-being of people and their surroundings.
The festival believes in the power of art to revitalize local culture, and strives to make art accessible to all. By commissioning site-specific street art, Waterford Walls supports artists and fosters diversity, connecting generations and providing a platform for artistic knowledge to flourish.
A Commitment to Artists and Community
Waterford Walls operates under an artist fair pay policy, aligned with the standards set by the Arts Council of Ireland. In addition, since May 2023, the festival has actively promoted the Safe to Create Programme, ensuring safer working conditions for all workers involved in the event.
By harnessing the potential of street art, Waterford Walls continues to democratize art and regenerate urban areas, making Waterford a place to be proud of. For more information, visit The Walls Project and follow the event on social media @waterfordwalls.
