A popular beach place to visit on the Dutch coast is ‘Scheveningen’, a part of the municipality of The Hague. Currently there is a huge make over happening to make this place like it used to be in the 60’s 70’s (the rich and famous from all over Europe used to go bathing here). So lots of construction going on and this means… Huge and long construction sites walls! Perfect for a massive oldskool graffiti jam. With support of the municipality The Hague and Montana Cans, The Hague Street Art invited around 50 artists to paint a 250 meter wall in just one weekend. A fresh selection of street artist and graffiti writers came to the beach to paint, to BBQ and to have a drink the first weekend of October. The weather was lovely and the vibe was amazing; spontaneous collaborations were done on the spot. The youngest artist was in her early twenties and the most oldskool painter was nearly sixty years old.

Most of the artists were known local writers as: Jim (United Artists), Sense (TSF), Zest (TSF), Shake (TSF), PSY (2HT) Dazr (CVS), Riser (KN), Talib (FDL) & Beyond, along to well known artists from other Dutch cities as: Mickey (TFP), Scage (DSK), Sign (DAH), Cruse (2HT), Pop Eye, Cosh, Dphazer & Surch. Add some newskool writers, more street art and graphic design minded artists to the lineup and you’ve got a fresh mix of artists for this event. For example Spanish mural artist Lily Brik joined (she was working on a big mural in The Hague at the same time) and local design duo ‘SOGO’ (illustrator Sophia den Breems and photographer Gordon Meuleman) to complete the diverse lineup. The constuction wall will last at least till the end of next summer, so check it out if you’re in the area. According to us this is the only painted wall directly on the beach in the Netherlands. With sunny weather it looks a bit like the Hall Of Fame on Venice Beach, California, only this one is way longer. If it’s up to us we’ll paint the whole wall again in the spring of 2019!
