From July 12th to 16th, 2024, in Palmerston North, New Zealand the TMD Fest was held. This four-day event saw the renowned TMD Crew, along with a stellar lineup of artists, bring new life to the walls of Snails Lane, creating a monumental display of street art that will be remembered for years to come.
TMD Crew: A Legacy of Influence
The TMD Crew, originating from Auckland, New Zealand, has been a powerhouse in the graffiti world for decades. With members like Askew, Berst, Rams, and Sofles, TMD has had a profound impact on the evolution of graffiti art, pushing boundaries with their free-flowing and dynamic spray painting techniques.
Since its formation, TMD has grown into an international collective with members in Australia, Asia, and Europe. Their reputation was solidified with victories at the Write4Gold international graffiti competition in Germany in 2006 and 2008, establishing them as a force to be reckoned with. Many of the original crew members have since found success in various artistic fields, while a new generation continues to carry the TMD legacy forward.
Reflecting on TMD Fest: The Event
Held in the urban heart of Palmerston North, Snails Lane—an inner-city carpark long known for its graffiti murals—was the perfect canvas for the TMD Fest. The event centered around a large-scale graffiti production on the prominent cinder block wall opposite the Briscoes driveway, transforming the space into a vibrant gallery of street art.
The festival brought together an impressive roster of artists, including: Berst, Fuego, Meep, Race, Editor, Pest5, Skies, Geral, Humor and Revos.
