Born in Belgrade in 1991 these two identical twin brothers started their artistic journey on the streets of their hometown with their individual tags before they joined their forces and creative visions. It is nothing new in the world of street art to see twins mastering their collaborative approaches to artistic practices especially if we have in mind the outstanding Os Gemeos or How & Nosm duo. Walking the similar path, Sobekcis embraced the differences in their sensibilities and started to build the shared style, each artist adding something unique and their individual talents complementing each other rather than diverging from one another. Their artistic development continued in Vienna where they both obtained academic degrees in graphic design and started to reevaluate their previous street art engagements. Constantly evolving and enhancing their practice, Sobekcis duo adopted a more challenging approach to art, entering the world of fine arts and galleries in the past couple of years.
Those who had the opportunity to see the previous Sobekcis exhibition in Copenhagen, might have already noticed the transition in the work of the duo. Focus on the more abstract forms, intricate compositions and concentration on the vivid coloring came to dominate the style of the artists in the recent past. Entitled Shape Shift the exhibition in Soest will underline that change of direction, the shift from figurative forms to abstract influences. The shifting metaphor is also incorporated to include a more general orientation of the artists, whose complete oeuvre can be seen as constantly changing, moving further from the past inspirations and exploring the widest artistic horizons. Fluctuating between their graffiti background and fine art prospects, Sobekcis duo reconstructs their graffiti aesthetic making the marvelous works which harmoniously unite all their creative impulses.
Over the short period of time, the Serbian duo has gained an extraordinary support from their fellow-artists and the international audience. Hopefully, the German urban art enthusiasts will be thrilled as well with Sobekcis first solo show in their country. The Shape Shift exhibitionwill feature new acrylic works on canvas and paper, opening on November 14th and staying on view until December 11th, 2015. The exhibition by Sobekcis will take place at Partisan Creative Corner showroom of Art Is Just a Four Letter Word Gallery in Soest, Germany.
