Artist Guido van Helten found himself in a less then familiar place after taking up an artist residency in Reykjavik, Iceland. One thing led to another and before long the artist was working on a huge scale series of paintings inspired by images from the archive of the Reykjavik museum of photography. Upon stumbling on images from the screen play of Reykjavik 1961 theatre production, ‘no exit’ by Jean Paul Satre, van Helten set off creating 3 large murals on the Loftkastalinn’ building in the Old west side of Reykjavik, a former theatre and now creative building housing film and design production studios.
