Sittard, a picturesque town nestled in the heart of The Netherlands, has always been a place that holds a special spot in the heart of the renowned graffiti artist, Nash and Mr. June. As the town where they took their first steps in the world of graffiti during the early nineties, Sittard is where Nash’s and June´s artistic journey began. Fast forward to the late nineties, and Nash had another pivotal partner in crime – Does, another graffiti luminary from Sittard. Both Nash and Does had their roots firmly planted in this charming town, and their collaboration was destined to leave an indelible mark on it.
Nash was recently presented with an opportunity that would allow him to pay homage to his hometown in a grand and visually stunning manner. The challenge? To create a massive mural on a 13-story-high building, towering an astonishing 36 meters above the ground. This monumental task would transform the skyline of Sittard and welcome travelers as they entered the city by train. However, Nash knew he couldn’t embark on this ambitious project alone. He understood that such a significant endeavor required the collective creativity and passion of artists who shared a deep connection with Sittard. Immediately, he reached out to his old friends and fellow graffiti artists, June and Does, both of whom were born and raised in Sittard. These two artists had played an integral role in Nash’s journey through the world of graffiti.
Nash, June, and Does joined forces to tackle this incredible challenge. Their combined expertise and shared history with Sittard made them the perfect trio to breathe life into this colossal canvas. The mural was not just about art but also a reflection of their shared experiences and love for the town that had shaped them as artists. Over the course of 12+ days, the artists worked tirelessly to bring their vision to life. Every stroke of the spray can, every detail of the design, and every color choice was infused with their passion and dedication. As the mural took shape, it became more than just a piece of art; it was a testament to the artists’ roots, their growth, and their enduring connection to Sittard.
The completed mural now stands as a testament to the power of art and its ability to transform not only the physical landscape but also the emotional and cultural identity of a place. As the first thing visible to those arriving in Sittard by train, the mural serves as a powerful welcome sign, inviting visitors to explore the rich history and vibrant artistic culture of the town.
