The location was the youth center “HOT” in Koblenz, Germany. For the uninitiated, from 1996 till 2007 this building served as a hub for the local MC’s, DJ’s, BBoys, BGirls and you guessed it, graffiti writers. Year in year out HOT was the Hip Hop Headquarters for the region and many a German writer reminisces about going to HOT for one jam or another.
Better late than never
But a 12-year pause is long enough so 2019 saw return of the graffiti community to HOT for the “Jam On It” event. This time, however, the participants were not just locals. With a full kit of Montana GOLD and Montana BLACK cans available, the artist line-up of Dater127, Spk38 from Koblenz, Ohm from Hamburg, Jayn from Lüneburg, Baske, Moter from Karlsruhe, Can2 from Wuppertal, Hifi from Dortmund and Dreist from Aschaffenburg.
The diversity of their origins was not even close to the diversity they achieved in their artworks. Contemporary style writing was juxtaposed next to characters, design and geometric abstraction. Just what any Youth Centre needs to inspire young people. The others made solo works as well as some productions with combining themes. Take a further look and be inspired here.
